Chad Chaffin
Scored His Second Top Ten Finish in as Many Races
Chad Chaffin and the No. 18 BHR Dickies Dodge continued their slow march
back into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points battle by recording
their second top ten finish in a row, and third overall at Dover
International Speedway on Friday afternoon. Chaffin came from the 12th
place starting position to lead midway through the event, and eventually
finish in the seventh position.
“It was just another solid day for the Dickies Dodge,” said Chaffin. “We
had a good truck from the time we got here. We were fastest in first
practice on Thursday, and I think we would have had a shot for the pole
had it not rained out qualifying. Then in the race, we just worked our way
up from 12th place, and the guys turned in some great stops, and we got
another solid finish. We’re slowly getting back on-track with this deal,
and I think through the next few months, you’re going to see some great
things out of this team.”
Chaffin spent most of the day running somewhere between fifth place and
13th place, before taking the lead on a pit strategy move on lap 85. He
spent seven laps upfront before yielding the top position to the teams
that did make pit stops for tires.
“We fought track position all day long, so midway through the race, we
stayed out to get up front,” said Chaffin. “It kind of bit us a little
when the race did not have another caution for several laps. It caught us
a lap down, but as soon as we lost the lap, the caution flew and we got it
back. I’m happy. We showed up and had a competitive truck. We led the race
and got five bonus points and got a top ten finish. I don’t think you can
ask for a better afternoon. Now we’ll just head to Texas and try and put
on a good show for the folks down at Dickies World Headquarters in Fort
Worth.”
Chaffin and the team will enter the O’Reilly 400K event next week at Texas
Motor Speedway in the tenth position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
points standings. The team has been battling back from 13th position since
the Martinsville race back in April.
“It will take some time to get back to where we think we should be,” said
Chaffin. “One thing for sure is it takes a lot longer to gain points than
to lose them.”
