Chaffin at Bristol: This week it is off to the king of all the
short tracks, "Bristol," and the No. 18 Dickies Team and Driver Chad
Chaffin are ready, willing, and able to get the job done.
"Wow, is about all you have to say when you hear the name Bristol," said
Chaffin. "I've been here several times in a Busch car, and each time it's
been awesome. This is the ultimate place to race. You can have a great day
and in a split second, it can end on a flat bed trailer. I almost think
you race the track as much as you race the competitors. Our goal for this
week is to make it to lap 150 with all the fenders on the Dickies Dodge,
and then see who we have to beat to win this race. It's our last chance
this year to win the home state, and you can bet we want to win badly. The
season is coming to an end fairly soon, and we have a few unfinished items
to take care of."
Chaffin and the team are coming off of a solid sixth place finish at
Nashville Super Speedway after winning the pole, so nothing less than a
top ten in this race is acceptable.
"We just need to keep knocking down the top ten finishes, and everything
is going to be just fine for this team," said Chaffin.
About Qualifying: The race to win the season long Bud Pole Award is
heating up with five teams tied with two poles a piece. The first tie
breaker is most second place starts, which there is a two way tie. The
third tie breaker is third place starts, which the No. 18 team holds the
advantage. With ten races to go in the season, Chaffin holds the tie
breakers by virtue of two poles, two second place starts, and two third
place starts.
"It may not seem like a big deal, but I know we want to win this award,"
said Chaffin. "This team won in 2000 with eight poles, and it would be
great to win again."

Testing: On Monday, August 11, 2003, the No. 18 Dickies Team
attended an open Dodge test session at Bristol Motor Speedway. The event
lasted from mid-day to late in the evening. All three BHR teams attended
the test session.
This Week's Truck: This week, BHR will be racing "Chunky" at
Bristol Motor Speedway. Chunky is the same truck that led the most laps
earlier this year at Martinsville Speedway. It was also the same truck the
team ran in its very first race in March of 1999 at Miami Homestead
Speedway. In 1999, Butch Miller finished 13th with Chunky in the last race
the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ran at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Appearances: Chaffin and the Dickies Transporter will be making an
appearance at the Dickies Factory Outlet Store in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
on August 19, 2003 from 11:00AM to 4:00PM EST.
Championship Contenders: With ten races remaining in the 2003
season, there are 20 drivers that can still mathematically win the 2003
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship.

Chaffin Quotes "We're running a few one day shows the last
couple of weeks with Indy, Nashville, and Bristol. I really don't have a
preference, but I like the two day shows. The one day deal of practicing,
qualifying, and racing all on the same day is fair for everyone, but at
the end of the day, the guys are worn out. At Indy, I think most everyone
in the field was exhausted by the time the race started. The only really
bad deal was at Nashville. We won the pole, and it would have been a big
story to have that extra day to promote the race and the Series with some
press, especially since we were one of the hometown story lines. But to be
honest, it doesn't really matter to me what the schedule is."
"We've been getting our qualifying program on track the last few weeks, so
now we need to work on becoming a more consistent team in the top ten in
the running order. That's what wins races and championships. It's just a
growing process that is taking us this first year together to get a handle
on things."
